Notes: This art object is made with the finest natural materials that can be found in Polynesia. Akamaaraanga is Cook Islands Maori and means 'remembering'. The work remembers both the lengths of tapa made for the chiefly class and the traditional lace culture od medieval Europe that were once of utmost importance on either side of the world as gift to kings and queens in international trade and travel. The work is part of Andrea Eimke's MA research.

Notes: Born from a loss, making this double sided piece served as a healing meditation on death and (re)birth, good byes and welcomes, ends and new beginnings. Hand-dyed Cotton fabrics were combined with hand-dyed tapa cloth and stitching to achieve the desired result.

Notes: delicate lace made from Hibiscus bark fibres, tapa and Polyester thread was insterted between panels of cotton cloth. These were stiched together by machine and embellished with shreds of tapa and beads. The hanging is equal on both sides - the photograph shows them both. It is embellished with a pearl shell, beading and bones. The work is part of Andrea Eimke's MA research studies.

Notes: Interfacing was ripped and applied in a papier maché technique to form a head shape, stabilized with wire. The inside was covered with pieces of Breadfruit barkcloth, the outside with Banyan barkcloth. The hands were sewn from Breadfruit bark and lined with interfacing. Tukinga Upoko means "bashing (the) head". It is the name of an area on the island of Atiu where meetings were held in ancient times to decide about war and piece. People often translate it with head bashing, however its meaning could just as well be " wrecking one's brain" to insure the best solution to a problem. This work is part of Andrea Eimke's MA research studies.
