Workshops at the Atiu Fibre Arts Studio
Explore traditional Cook Islands textile techniques
If you need a break and look for a meaningful vacation to replenish your battery, get away from it all and come to visit us on Atiu!
If you wish to know more about tivaivai, the Cook Islands traditional ceremonial cloths, and you'd like to learn how to design and sew your own tivaivai, wall hanging or quilt, book in for a creative one-week workshop at the Atiu Fibre Arts Studio!
For NZ$ 500.00 you will receive 5 days of private tuition with an expert tutor all to yourself sharing our ample studio facilities.

Using local flora and fauna as inspiration, you can learn the basics of how to:
design, cut and hand or machine sew a tivaivai manu (snowflake style appliqué)
design, cut and hand or machine embroider a tivaivai tataura (embroidered appliqué)
design, cut and hand or machine sew a tivaivai taorei (mosaic patchwork)
The tuition will be tailored to your personal choice. You can learn a bit of everything or focus on one technique only. We are flexible.
You will work together with Andrea in our studio. She’ll be happy to share her extensive knowledge and accommodate all of your questions regarding the traditional and contemporary techniques used in making tivaivai. Andrea is fluent also in German and Spanisch and can communicate in French. She will be happy to conduct classes in any of those languages
It may be a good idea to allow for at least two additional days on Atiu, so that in your spare time you have a chance to explore our enchanted island. We will try our best to accommodate the requested time-period into our work schedule. Please contact us first, before booking your international and inter-island flights. We can arrange accommodation for you on request and we can work out an alternative program for accompanying partners.
Just contact us, we look forward to hearing from you!
